Truckee is the home of the Northstar ski resort. Truckee, which is a funny name, is an old mining town and is located about 15 minutes of the Squaw Valley ski resort area, and has a cute old main street in downtown. If you're going to ski Northstar, get your Northstar lodging right in the village, or as we call it, the compound.
The best place to stay in Truckee is near the ski resort you want to do most often. There are several of them in the vicinity including Boreal, Squaw, Alpine Meadows and Northstar. Northstar is by far the most upscale resort in the area although Squaw Valley is creeping up on them fast. There is a lot of good information available on the Lake Tahoe resort from the local City Concierge office.
When you're traveling, you may want to do a bit of exploring and see some of central California. You can do a great car tour from Lake Tahoe to Mammoth Lake Tahoe down to Mammoth and that means a few extra days on vacation. Hey... why not... you're on vacation. See you on the slopes!
